Event Details

Anja Hilkemeijer and Cleo Hansen-Lohrey, Lecturers in Constitutional and Administrative Law at the University of Tasmania, have joined forces to deliver a practical session on the nature of merits and judicial review.

In this workshop participants will learn how courts and tribunals are designed to provide independent oversight over government decision-making in areas such as environment and planning law, migration and social security. Under the guidance of workshop leaders, participants will work through a number of hypothetical scenarios which illustrate the purpose, procedure, and powers of administrative law review mechanisms.

The workshop is aimed at members of the public who would like to gain a better understanding of existing pathways for the independent review of government decisions. Prior knowledge, skills and preparation is not required.

Tuesday 21 May 2024 at 5:30pm – 7:00pm. Light refreshments (soft drink and nibbles) will be provided. The event will be held at room 225 at the Law Faculty Building on the Sandy Bay campus.
